What's our role as parent?

You have been in my heart since Mothers Day. You do so much, one day to celebrate and honor you just doesn't seem to do justice!

With all the roles you have to fulfill, you might ask yourself: am I doing the right thing? Am I raising my child in the healthiest way? Am I providing the best care and guidance for my child's success?

I've spent a lot of time thinking about the answers to these questions and here's what I've learned:

No matter what role we're in at the moment The Heart People are there to guide us through every interaction. Whether we're a chef or a nurse, compassion shows us how to handle the relationship and the communication with our child: in the car, in the kitchen, with a scrapped knee, pouring over homework, cleaning up.

At the end of the day, it's not so much "how well did my child learn this new skill or accomplish this task" but more so:

"in the midst of this daily task, did my child have a connecting moment? A moment of being seen and heard, of being understood, so she can understand herself?"

Did my child get a moment of empathy?

This moment may or may not lead to their own awareness, but over time, if repeated frequently, it definitely will. Their future success, their future selves, will be more embodied, more fully felt and expressed than a surface show of success; they will be happy because they know the happiness of connection now.

So today, and every day, no matter which role you find yourself in, I honor you and all you do, even if it's feeling messy and unappreciated...

because at the end of the day, it's not about perfection, it's about connection.

With so much love,

Vanessa
