Empathy Works, Even when it Doesn't

If empathy were a superhero it would be the quietest, softest, gentlest and most powerful force of loving energy. It would be like water, which flows downward and searches out the low places, patiently smoothing away the rough edges of the river rocks over time. But empathy is more than just a nice-sounding concept.

Empathy is actually making neural connections in the brain. Your child’s brain is built for integration.

That means all parts of the brain working together optimally.

When a child feels repeatedly empathized with, her brain, over time, gets networked for this optimal functioning. This means she will have a freer and fuller life, be able to tolerate pain and discomfort without hurting herself or others, think and reason clearly, work with others, problem solve, live a connected and deeply satisfying life. As parents, we often get stuck in the moment-to-moment frustration, the behavior problems, the attitude, the talking back, the disrespect. Empathy disarms the lashing out. When it is given repeatedly then, regardless of our child's outward behaviors and empathy's seemingly ineffective use, our child begins to develop the neural connections of self-awareness (and awareness of others!) in her own mind. This is essential to a wholly satisfying and embodied life.

In my classes and individual coaching you will learn even more about this incredibly potent developmental time that your child is going through and how to most effectively use this superpower of empathy following my three steps of conscious parenting for effective solutions. You will also explore how this is deeply connected to your own healing and growth.

So please join me for learning, connection and support! I have been studying, practicing, and developing this body of work for over a decade now, I love supporting parents and I would love to support you!
